Cabinets and appliances change everything
Measure only the wall that's actually exposed — units, the fridge and built-in appliances all take real wall out of the count, so don't measure the room as if it were empty.
Grease and steam need washable paper
Anywhere near the hob or sink needs a washable or vinyl-coated roll, the same rule as a bathroom — standard paper wallpaper stains and lifts in a kitchen fast.
Splashback zones usually stay tiled
The strip directly behind the hob and sink is normally tile or glass, not wallpaper — leave that section out of your measurements entirely.
Common questions
Do I need to paper behind the fridge or cooker?
No — skip any section that will be permanently hidden behind a fitted appliance, the same way you would with a wardrobe in a bedroom.
Is wallpaper safe near a gas hob?
Keep the immediate splashback zone tiled and use a washable-rated paper for the rest of the kitchen — check the roll label for a wet-area rating first.
